Starting something new can feel intimidating, but at Dadojo.co, we’re here to make sure your first Bang Muay Thai class is as fun and welcoming as possible. Whether your goal is to get in shape, learn self-defense, or just try something new, our Layton, Utah, classes are designed for everyday people like you. Here’s what you need to know before stepping on the mats.

Arrive Prepared

  • Come a Little Early: Plan to arrive 15 minutes before class. This gives you time to check in, wrap your hands, and get settled without feeling rushed.
  • Bring Your Attendance Card: If it’s your first class, don’t worry—we’ll help you get set up.
  • Dress for Success: If you’re new, wear a plain white or light gray shirt. As you progress, you’ll graduate to wearing a ranked t-shirt that matches your level.
  • Essential Gear: You’ll need hand wraps, 16oz or 14oz boxing gloves, and shin guards. If you don’t have them yet, let us know—we have gear available for you to borrow.

Class Structure

Here’s how we’ll ease you into your training session:

  1. Bow In: We start every class by bowing in—a simple gesture of respect that sets the tone for focused and positive training.
  2. Warm-Up (10 Minutes): The warm-up is designed to loosen you up and get your blood flowing. Don’t stress if you’re not used to it; just go at your own pace.
  3. Line Drills: You’ll begin by learning the basics: footwork and punching. These are the building blocks of Bang Muay Thai, and we’ll guide you every step of the way.
  4. Kicking Shields: Kicking a shield is one of the most satisfying parts of training. You’ll practice power and accuracy while learning proper technique.
  5. Bag Drills: This is where things get fun. You’ll put together punches, kicks, and combinations on the heavy bags. It’s a great workout and an awesome stress reliever.
  6. Partner Drills (Dutch Drills): Partner up to practice combinations and pad holding. Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before—your coach and partner will help you get the hang of it. This is where you’ll refine your timing and technique while having a great time.
